Have you tried Runescape? www.runescape.com. It's not necessarily open source, but it is playable for free. The game is similar in style to the Ultima games, and it is massively multiplayer. The games's creators are constantly throwing in new features, so it is getting better. One suggestion, if you want to try this game, make sure that you have a Java VM plugin that is working correctly, first.

Speaking of games, I would like a good multiplayer RPG, I have NWN but
beat that before I even switched from $OTHER-OS. If anybody knows of a
good, preferably open source RPG, I'd love to hear about it. A
Massively Multiplayer RPG such as Ultima Online would be wonderful.
(Same goes for any real, live, Dungeons and Dragons games looking for a
player)
