Because that's what they have wanted all along.  They didn't get into this for 
the licensing fees.

Given a choice, would you rather:

a) See them get bought out, the BoD and major shareholders make some money off 
the deal.
b) Watch them twist in the wind when no one buys them out and no one pays 
their silly extortion fees.
