Yum list updates will do it.  Check out man yum for more options.  You 
could also put kernel updates in the exclude line in your yum.conf 
file.  That way it won't update your kernels from yum.  (Glibc is 
another common addition).  Man yum.conf to see this and other 
configuration options.
