Excellent instructions, Jon!  I would only add one thing.
All your examples were for anonymous ftp.   While this will
work, it is bandwidth limited, so I would remind our members
that they can specify their e-mail address they used to register
with trilug as the username and their membership number as a password
to get non bandwidth limited access (within our 1mbs allotment, of
course).

If you don't happen to remember your membership number, please
contact the steering committee at steering at trilug dot org
and we can arrange to send you that.
