Well, yeah!
You can actually make Mailman believe that it's URL is the external
resolvable one - of course you'll always have to access it via the
redirect (unless you define the external site name in your hosts file
and point it to the local address).
Note: You may lose all your Post-ed data by doing the redirect (unless
your doing actual port-forwarding). Losing the Post-ed data would make
access to the Mailman website fairly worthless.
To change the base URL used by a list you will need to edit
~mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py and add the external URL as a virtual host
then employ the "withlist -r fix_url" command to change the URL on the
existing lists so that they now use the Virtual ones setup in the
configuration file.
Sigh... It's a lot easier to fix in 2.0.x
