I *have* bothered to take that step, and it does work fine.  Of course,
if you are using postfix, make sure that the
/var/spool/postfix/etc/resolv.conf is the same as your
/etc/resolv.conf.  

(Apparently RR changed DNS sometime during a month of little/no use of
my mail server, and since the postfix chrooted version was no longer
usable, postfix couldn't figure out how to forward e-mail to the
smtp-server.)
