[TriLUG] Kernel compilation - processor type

Does anybody know what the difference between choosing
Pentium-III/Celeron(Coppermine) and 686 is? According to the help page
in make menuconfig Pentium-III is the choice for me (Coppermine
Celeron), but it doesn't mention 686 at all.

Everything else is compiled using arch=i686 and I am wondering if 686
and Pentium-III/Celeron(Coppermine) are actually the same thing in the
Kernel configuration.
