I've used IDE burners on 2.6.x with good results. The key may be to make
sure you are using a version
of cdrecord that has support for IDE burners... also, I believe there is
a switch that tells cdrecord to
search the IDE chain, but I'm not on my linux box so I'm not sure what
it is.
