[TriLUG] Device detection

In linux, I'm used to being able to use /proc/pci to figure out what
hardware I have in an box.
However, I always run into trouble when setting up Windows on a box
that I don't know what devices are installed.  I usually just pop in a
gentoo or knoppix cd and let the kernel tell me what hardware it has. 
There must be a better way to figure out what drivers I need though,
when windows doesn't detect it for me.  Any ideas?
