[TriLUG] weird sound card problems

Hey guys- I bought a USB Sound Blaster MP3+, a nifty usb sound card
with optical I/O as well as other standard line in/mic and line out
jacks. When I first used it with my desktop (running Mandrake 10.1), all
I had to do was add 'audio' to my /etc/hotplug/blacklist and that kept
Mandrake from loading the onboard sound, and everything defaulted
automagically to my usb sound. (Quake, Doom, XMMS, everything). It used
the module snd-usb-audio.
But! For some reason, it's not working now. I have just commented out
the lines in my /etc/modprobe.conf that refer to snd-via82xx, but on
reboot the lines that I commented out are put back in.
So how can I stop the onboard sound modules from loading? I tried
disabling from the BIOS, but Mandrake still loads the onboard sound
modules. And even more frustrating, it worked fine before with no
fuss!
  Thanks for your help-
