From rom what you've said as well as a lot of other things I've read in my
Linux audio research, it seems that the best solution is to have a
decent box dedicated to your Linux audio (for anything more advanced
than just ALSA) as opposed to just having some composition software on
your main box. With Jack, Linux has the potential to be THE most
powerful audio platform though.
When things get a bit more stable (because there is a LOT of work needed
in that area) it'll be interesting to see if any professional audio
folks switch to Linux for their mixing. I know I'll probably be setting
up an audio box to mix this year's CD for [shameless plug] The Premier
ASU A Cappella group, Higher Ground (http://www.asuhigherground.com).
[/shameless plug] For the price to get someone else to do it, it's more
economical for us to just buy the equipment ourselves.
