I just thought I'd mention that there's a really interesting book out 
there called "Showstopper" which is
a story of the "development" of NT, spearheaded by Dave Cutler as 
mentioned in the previous post.

Very interesting to see the relationships and management or tyranny 
depending on your point of view.
I got interested in reading it because I used to work at an old (as in 
former) DEC facility in Springfield MA..
