Yesterday at Lowes I was ordering carpet. The machine used by the customer
service rep. have a distinctly non-windows look to it. Closer inspection
revealed an "X" window system. Even closer inspection of the order entry
screen on an application called Genesis revealed an permission error when
attempting to write to /usr/local/log/blah.log. I asked if the system was
new - it was. It was running on an IBM branded platform. I asked if the
system was better or worse than what was used prior to the change - about
the
same was the answer, the user interface was superior.
Could Lowes be using Linux at the PoS? Seems possible. Anybody on the list
know for sure?
