Support Engineer

Introduction:
Opsware Inc. is seeking to hire a Support Engineer to be based in either
Cary, NC or Sunnyvale, CA.  The person who fills this job will be
responsible for working with the team of Opsware Support Engineers to
field, track, troubleshoot and resolve inbound technical support requests
from customers.  Opsware Inc. intends to fill this position immediately.


Overall Job Requirements:
·	Interact directly via phone and email with Opsware customers to
troubleshoot and resolve technical problems relating to the Opsware
product portfolio.
·	Interact directly with members of the Opsware engineering, product
management and services organizations to manage, where required, the
escalation and resolution of product-related technical problems.


Ideal Candidate Background:
·	Excellent oral and written communication skills
·	Demonstrated track record of successful external customer management and
internal project management
·	Highly reliable self-starter; can-do attitude; able to work with minimal
supervision
·	Deep technical experience with:
o	Solaris, Linux, AIX and HPUX
o	A programming language, such as C, C++ or Java
o	Oracle (DBA and/or application development)
o	SQL and one or more scripting languages, especially Python, Unix Shell
Scripting
o	Experience in supporting web-based applications (e.g., Apache, IIS,
Weblogic)
·	Willingness to carry a pager for rotating on-call responsibilities
after-hours
·	Bachelor’s Degree in CS or equivalent
·	(Desirable) CCNA or equivalent; experience with network devices (e.g.,
Cisco, Nortel, F5, etc.)
·	(Desirable) Prior experience (3-5 years) with and knowledge of
enterprise software


Reporting Relationship:
·	The Support Engineer will report into the Manager, Customer Support.


Compensation:
·	Commensurate with experience and skill-level
