Jeff, I did the same (November 1999 - early Christmas present from
26.4kbps dialup max speed).  It was a SB3100 (General Instrument?).
It worked for the 2MB service, then later when they upped it to 3Mbps
it was fine.  However, Time-Warner said that the SB3100 was not
supported for the5Mbps service.  Went to the office on Atlantic Ave.
just south of Six Forks  (Raleigh) and they traded it for an SB5100
(Motorola).  Now, EL also has the 5Mbps service, provisioned
identically from Time-Warner.  (P.S. EL seems to have been doing the
ISP thing for long enough to get it right, for the most part).
