Position Title: Performance Analyst
General Description:
The Performance Analyst will be responsible for the day to day system health
of the Unix/Linux systems. The candidate will communicate at the technical
and client levels within the company necessary to satisfy the assigned
responsibilities. Limited interfacing with the client directly will be
expected to communicate and represent the performance and planning
activities within client. Work products will be clear, concise and
accurate.
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
? Evaluate performance reporting to provide a clear status of
Unix/Linux system performance
? Work with technical leadership to produce performance evaluations of
systems
? Evaluate impacts from projects, business events, follow up on
changes, performance improvements
? Initiate investigations into performance issues, produce performance
recommendations to systems, database and applications for the Unix/Linux
systems.
? Prepare post-mortem reports from problem analysis and develop action
plans to prevent future occurrences
? Identify ongoing needs for improving tools and reporting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
? Education: Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer
Science, or Engineering or equivalent work experience
? Experience: More than 3 years experience in system level design,
development, and implementation including performance measuring, and
management
? Knowledge of performance engineering principles, Software
Engineering Institute processes and principles, and IEEE/ISO standards
? In-depth knowledge of the operating system/protocols, performance
measurement facilities, operation/management interfaces, development
languages, tools and test facilities of at least one computing environment
? Working knowledge of the operating system/protocols and performance
measurements facilities in an additional environment (Linux, Unix)
? Basic understanding of performance principles and theory (e.g.
Little's Law, queuing theory)
? Workload analysis and characterization skills
? Correlation analysis skills
? Working knowledge of scripting language, PERL, scheduling processes
in NT, Linux, UNIX
? Ability to present/publish effectively to peers and technical leads
within the company
? Good Microsoft Office, SAS, web publishing, Visio, modeling and data
warehouse/mining skills
? Ability to learn rapidly and retain, solve problems, multitask,
plan, organize, collaborate, synthesize and abstract
