[TriLUG] kmail performance (Mail Archiving ?)

probably because all of those messages are stored in a maildir or
maildir-like format, and may not be indexed. not sure if kmail has an
indexing function, if so you'd probably have found it by now. i used to
run kmail until i switched to thunderbird and never had any performance
problems, but i used an imap server rather than local storage.
you might consider running fetchmail on your system to retrieve mail,
and deliver it to procmail, which in turn puts it in your maildir. then
use courier or dovecot locally to access it, let the imap daemon handle
indexing. bit of an ugly solution, and it might not help, but worth a try.
