It was the head of SBC Global, which iirc is buying AT&T (and changing
their name to AT&T maybe?!?)

Anyway, if they do that, they open a whole host of worms because they
lose common carrier status (and are therefore liable for *everything* that
crosses the network) and their customers will just go elsewhere
for access.
