[TriLUG] open source software versioning guidelines?

I presume these guidelines must exist?  I'm not finding what appears
to be a central repo for this info.  Can someone guide me in the
correct direction please?  At work, we are writing a versioning SOP
for our internal software, and if the OSS community has guidelines,
I'd like to use those instead of writing our own versioning rules.
