Especially now that Sun won't provide an x86-64 JRE for Linux. Like a lot
of other folks, I have an amd64 workstation and am loathe to install a 32
bit browser just for a plugin.
Regarding Java - most Java apps I've had experience with seem very finnicky
about having a JRE that is a very specific version and will behave
unpredictably if you vary from that. Additionally, most are just plain
slow.
Javascript, on the other hand, seems to be pretty consistent and seemless.
No major gripes.
