Thanks for your comment. It is interesting to note that there are 
numerous devices being marketed to do just what I want to do. Today I 
did some googling  on evdo mobile routers.

At the top of the google list was aMB8000 bundle with special high gain 
antenna, router, and  a verizon evdo card, all for 1295.00
Others I have found that do the same thing that sell for less:
1. Kyocera KR1 Mobile Router selling on kyocera's website for 229 dollars.
2. The D-Link 3G Mobile Router DIR-450  selling for 199.99 at Best Buy

I  am certain there is at least one more out there, but I don't remember 
it's maker or model number etc.

I guess I will continue on with the project and only "experiment" with it...
