[TriLUG] CPU Considerations/Recommendations

I've been an Intel fan for the past xx years ...and have to say, they've
never gone wrong. It could get into a flame war, but I'll leave you with
this:
Dual Pentium III 933, Gentoo, 1 year 6 months uptime under the 2.4.x
kernel.
...I ended up breaking its downtime when we lost power in NY/CT because
of the heat (blackout).
Anyone tried out the Intel quad core yet?

I've had nothing but GREAT luck w/ AMD CPU's I've probably built 7-9
boxen with them and the ones that were taken out of service were due to
clockspeed slowness, not failure. In fact my server is going on year 6
and while showing it's slow clockspeed occasionally it has been ROCK
SOLID since Red Hat 7 was first installed.
YMMV
;-)
