I was reading a /. article, and saw some users mentioning switching to
EarthLink Cable internet which is not currently effected by this
dog-and-pony show.

My big question is whether the random latency issue exists on their
business class? I've tracert'ed it to one of three levels of routers in
their network from my home TW connection in Cary. Randomly taking
several hundred of ms to route a packet is just plain frustrating. I
guess it's ethernet but regardless they have under-provisioned their
network (at least for the residential service).
