The suggestion that everyone is dancing around, but no one
has explicitly stated, is that you should get a router.

The router will allow you to hook your laptop and the POS
onto the same local 192.168.x.y network, while consolidating
your traffic onto a single TWC address (which may be fixed,
or it may be dynamic).

The router MAY also allow you keep your two POS machines
on the same INTERNAL network, while only having to expose
the one external IP address (read: cheaper service from
TWC).

I usually keep a WRT54G in the trunk of my car, because
the darned things are just super useful.  In your case,
it'll save you from war-sitting/driving/sponging in the
short term, and it may save you some money in the longer
term.
