[TriLUG] system v message queues

In linux, there is the mq_ message system.  In this system, the message identifers are really file descriptors
and select can be used on them.(at least in linux.

Is this true of system V message queues.  If not, would this be an upgrade worth requesting from kernel developers?
If they were, the select could be used on them. ( aix has this function)
