System Engineer

The Time Warner Cable Corporate office currently seeks a System Engineer
for our Durham, North Carolina Regional Data Center.  Below please find
a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required
to function successfully in this position.

Essential Job Functions:
- Mid level UNIX engineer that contributes to the overall systems engineering
   strategy.
- Works closely with systems operations team members and Time Warner Cable
   business units to administer critical systems and Load Balanced solutions
   providing High-Speed Online and Digital Phone services on various Unix
   platforms.
- Implements Regional Data Center deployment activities.
- Supports systems operations as a member of the system administration project
   team.
- Maintains regional server systems and provides off-hours coverage via
   pager/remote access as necessary.
- Performs system capacity planning to ensure appropriate growth and evolution
   of the systems.
- Performs testing, analysis and configuration of assorted system hardware and
   software for purposes of tuning, failure analysis and modeling.
- Analyzes and tunes performance of strategic Internet applications. Uses
   client/server tools to verify proper operation of complex configurations.
- Resolves system problems; provides technical support to key technical staff
   and assists with training of junior team members.
- Implements new and current technologies within the Regional Data Center
   providing high quality service.
- Assists in detailing documentation of solutions, systems and data center.

Job Requirements:

Responsible for support and monitoring for a 24x7 regional data center.
Contributes to the installation and configuration of software, as well as
integration of solutions in an ISP environment. Provides systems and
applications support and engineering for the UNIX platform.
(85% SUN/15%Linux) The job is a combination of advanced systems administration
and systems engineering.

Successful candidate will have broad understanding of multiple technologies;
detailed knowledge of DHCP, DNS, HTTP/S, HTML, POP, SMTP, LDAP, SNMP, TCP/IP
principles, Internet routing and firewalls, security and Load Balancing
solutions(BigIP). Product deployment and end user support experience desirable;
3+ years experience with supporting production UNIX systems; experience working
within a 24x7 operations environment supporting large farms of UNIX systems;
working knowledge of SUN hardware and RAID technologies. Experience working
with SUN and EMC storage systems is preferred. TCP/IP knowledge and
troubleshooting across multiple LAN/WAN configurations is required.
Proven experience of various scripting languages is also required.
Weblogic, XML, PHP, Mysql and Oracle experience is highly desirable.

The candidate should understand Inter-networking technologies; have a clear
understanding of the Internet, knowledge of switching, routing and load
balancing systems, and an understanding of web hosting systems and LAN/WAN
networking technologies. Knowledge of network and systems monitoring,
customer support, technical support, and service deployment are all
desirable. The candidate must be a team player and have the ability to
work well under tight time lines.

Background should include expertise in Internet service related products,
backup, security and monitoring software; experience with the development
of test procedures and custom system/network monitoring solutions. Working
knowledge of Data over Cable systems is a plus; ISP, Cable or Broadband
environment experience is highly valued.

Must be able to provide concise procedures and documentation of operational
procedures and be willing to work variable shift hours and rotate in on-call
duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

SUN, CCNA, Oracle and Veritas certification is a plus.  Prior experience with
administering multiple sites/datacenters is highly desirable.  Disaster
Recovery solutions utilizing Anycast and SAN replication is a plus.  Experience
with configuration management (Opsware) is a plus.

Education and Experience:

Level 3:  Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.)from four-year college or university;
or equivalent training, education and experience.

Travel Requirements:

Travel 10%

No Supervisory responsibilities with this position.
