Your friendly TriLUG treasurer here.
What I see on the mailing list is very similar to what the Steering
Committee has been going through recently. There is a lot of
information to keep straight, and many questions seem to be asked
repeatedly, and we end up going in circles. Other information has
been perpetually lost in the "uncertain of the facts/details"
category. You may have a better handle on things than most, but there
are definitely a few potential voters who I imagine are completely
confused by this entire matter. Without much legal experience, I know
I have been.
I don't have a strong opinion on what we should do. However, it's
been driving me a bit batty that the information hasn't been collected
somewhere. As such, I've started the following wiki page as a
summary:
http://trilug.org/wiki/Legal_Status
I've tried to keep the sections labelled "status" and "summary"
somewhat objective, with an area below each to include more
opinionated points that could be used to argue for that option.
This is very intentionally a wiki page. If you or other TriLUG
members have specific corrections to make, especially regarding the
legal details, please take a minute to clarify. If you have a fresh,
concise argument to add as a basic pro/con point, please add it to the
appropriate section. Finally, I'd like to ask everyone to be
respectful regarding other opinions -- don't delete others' fair
points, don't attack, don't start an inline argument. Hash it out on
the mailing list and summarize the relevant points on the wiki.

While I'm not the best person to answer legal questions, I can help
out here. Our books are entirely in order for this year, as best I
can manage. I'll follow up with a quick summary of the LUG's
finances.
