It's not only Hawaii. It's saturday for GMT too.

root at routera:~# date -d "Sun Apr 17 13:00:00 EDT 2010"
Sat Apr 17 17:00:00 GMT 2010

However for 2011 it's a sunday

root at routera:~# date -d "Sun Apr 17 13:00:00 EDT 2011"
Sun Apr 17 17:00:00 GMT 2011

`cal 2010` shows that Sunday Apr 17 2010 was played by a 
saturday
