I don't see this is a negative so much.  If you want a feature, why
isn't it worth installing something that provides that feature?
There's nothing to configure.  And if you're running a Mac or a modern
desktop Linux distro, you're probably already running a mDNS service.
So if you can avoid Windows, that'll reduce the amount of mDNS
installations you'll have to perform.

I think you could achieve your goal with DHCPv6 + signed IXFRs.  It
sounds like you didn't want to go to that trouble, but you also don't
seem to mind running a DHCP client.  If all that's disagreeable, maybe
dnsmasq will add better IPv6 support in the near future.  But that
still won't put your host names in public DNS.

Static private IPv4 address != static global IPv6 addresses in terms
of usability.  So I don't see the relevance of that comment.

I think you'd really like mDNS for this if you can get past not
wanting to install the daemon.
