I have been engaged on two searches for two Senior Linux Administrators
for Raleigh-Durham based emerging high tech organizations.  Both roles
allow the opportunity to innovate.  I have included the job descriptions
below.

Our client, a growing healthcare technology company, is looking for a
Senior Linux Administrator to join their team.

This role offers an opportunity to innovate and contribute strategically
to the infrastructure topology.

The selected candidate will be the subject matter expert for linux-based
systems.  The ideal candidate is someone who is experienced in a wide
spectrum of related technical skill areas including TCP/IP networking,
scripting, and system backups and restores.

Job Responsibilities:

    * Assist in the installation, configuration, administration, and
      system security of a multi-platform environment which includes
      Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Linux; adhere to strong systems
      administration techniques and procedures
    * Responsible for the backup of data, including automatic backup
      routines and testing data integrity
    * Perform systems capacity analysis and provide recommendations
      to management
    * Maintain minimal system/user downtime
    * Establish and maintain best practices and procedures for patch
      management, virus management, and operating system upgrades
    * Provide automated system monitoring and reporting
    * Analyze and improve system performance
    * Troubleshoot system failures and resolve
    * Provide incident management, prioritization, and resolution of
      problems/tasks for users
    * Participate in documenting policies and procedures and changes
      made to the networking environment
    * Perform other activities as required to meet the needs of the
      organization
    * Participate in the on-call rotation schedule


Experience:

    * Must have shell/script programming experience
    * Must have strong documentation and communication skills
    * 6+ years of linux/unix server administration experience
    * Strong understanding of linux/unix fundamentals including kernel
      subsystems, scheduler, system calls, inter-process communication,
      process/resource management and file systems
    * Experience with enterprise backup systems
    * Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of services such as
      DNS, SMTP, SSH, HTTPD, DHCP, Postfix, is required
    * Strong understanding of running secure networks, hardening
      servers, implementing and monitoring performance measures
    * Experience with SAN/NAS storage solutions
    * Technical proficiency in additional Operating Systems, such as Linux
      and/or Windows (CentOS 5.X) is highly preferred
    * Experience in installation and monitoring of application servers
(Apache)
    * Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
    * Strong customer service skills, strong interpersonal skills, excellent
      time management skills, strong documentation skills, and advanced
      technical skills
    * The ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and deal
      professionally with internal and external clients
