I've been using Enigmail for a few years and it didn't me down.
That said, a note on usage (might save someone some head banging):
If you compose your messages in plain text, inline PGP works great.
But it breaks down if you use HTML in your emails.

If you use HTML, you can use PGP/MIME (available as an option with
Enigmail).
