I needed a couple of webcams and so needed one that gave a 
serial number, so I could differentiate them with udev. 
Turns out this one doesn't, ie HP wants you to buy only one.

The Logitech C310 (which I bought back then) and C525 (which 
I found today on sale at Best Buy for $40) have serial 
numbers.
