If all you need is a fancy status bar, I have set one up for "screen" by
putting this in a file called $HOME/.screenrc :

caption always "%{+b kK}%H %{gk}%C%a %{wk}[ %?%{yk}%-Lw%?%{wb}%n*%f
%t%?(%u)%?%?%{yk}%+Lw%?%{wk} ]"
startup_message off

To decode this gibberish, do a "man screen" and look under "SCREEN
ESCAPES". The quick cheat sheet, though, is here:

d=dim, u=underline, b=bold, r=reverse, s=standout, B=blinking

k=black, r=red, g=green, y=yellow, b=blue, m=magenta, c=cyan, w=white,
d=default
