Try Mint (mate), should be plug and play. I've seen it on an R31
locally. The advantage of mint is that it is still close to Raspbian,
so you wont be lost, command line will be pretty much the same (ie.
sudo apt-get install thingamajig). You can also easily install
proprietary video drivers if you want. What video card is on the R30?

OpenIndiana has also been pretty much plug and play, except when it
came to my 27" monitor. I had to specify an EDID file. I had to do the
same also under Mint.

For the mouse, open up the mouse preferences and set your pointer
speed acceleration / sensitivity, should make it better.
