Brian,
I've been using Taskwarrior for about a year and been pretty happy
with it. It looks like it might be similar to devtodo. The only
thing that I wish I could do with Taskwarrior is sync some tasks to my
Google Calendar, so that my wife can see what I will be doing. Maybe
I just don't know how to set that up.
I use Google Calendars to remind me of time sensitive meetings. This
is nice for me because it will remind me about 30 minutes before in
case I have forgotten. I don't know of an open source alternative.
For business I have been using Redmine manage all the projects, tasks
and time tracking. We also sponsored the creation of a Contracts
module (http://www.redmine.org/plugins/redmine_contracts_with_time_tracking)
which helps us manage contracts with clients.
When I'm working on a project and an idea pops in my head, I just keep
a markdown list of random thoughts so that I don't lose my flow. I'll
later go back to the markdown list and read through it to see if I
should follow up on any of those ideas.
I hope that helps!
David
