Thanks for the excellent history of desktops. I too loved KDE. It truly was better than GNOME. I only went with GNOME kicking and screaming because Red Hat was going that way. I think it took many years to get right, then they went and messed it up with GOME 3. Despite the decision, I am giving it a chance. On short investigation of Enlightenment, I am very intrigued. I may give it a try.

I agree in general that the desktop posed as a touch screen is a disaster in all UI's. So your Ubuntu Unity, Fedora GNOME 3, Win8 are truly quite annoying. The xFce and lxde also have my approval, especially on low resource systems. I appreciate everyone's response.
