[TriLUG] Avoiding the TWC modem rental fee

Hey,
We have been discussing the TWC modem rental fee on IRC today.
Apparently this new fee has been such a boon to their bottom line that
they are increasing it to $6 per month.

We have been looking into the TWC "recommended modems" and have come
up with the Motorola SB6141 which is currently priced at ~$85 online.
At $6/mo this would take 14 months to pay for itself.

Has anyone else bought their own modem with TWC service in the
Triangle area ?  Any problems or gotcha's ?
