[TriLUG] Avoiding the TWC modem rental fee

Just FYI, Tuesday I went from the Ubee all-in-one (WiFi a/b/g/n + VoIP)
from TWC to the SB6141. I believe that the Ubee only bonded 4 downstream
channels. I have 30/5 service. With the 6141, TWC is currently bonding 6
channels (it can do 8), and I've never gotten speeds of more than 3.7MB/sec
(29.6Mbps) with the Ubee but last night when I connected the 6141 I got
4.0MBps (32Mbps) on sustained transfers (downloading ISOs). The Ubee CPE
provisioning info showed me 32Mbps downstream and 5(something)Mbps
upstream, but I don't think that information is shown with the Motorola
6141. So, if people convince you to get the 6121 for $30 cheaper, I'd
personally opt for the 6141 especially if TWC is using 6-channels now.
That just means less likelihood of your neighbor (with 4-ch downstream
6121) stealing your bandwidth. :)
