[TriLUG] need a referral: networking expert

I run into this kind of thing a lot on my public wireless networks.  The issue usually is a home quality router.  Most of these devices seem to be able to handle about five concurrent connections before they start to do weird things like you are describing.

I've been a huge fan of Soekris hardware running m0n0wall software for years for this reason.  On the public wifi networks I use the 5505-70 and at home I use a 4801.  I ran a 450q for the better part of a decade but the 10 meg throughput finally displaced the old war horse.

Also use a dedicated access point of some kind.  Combo devices seem to do all things rather poorly (stuff made for home markets).
