They now have detectors with 10-year batteries.  Some quick math while
standing in the store revealed that the total price is less than the cost
of a traditional detector plus 9 years worth of batteries.  Not including
inflation.  Or the cost of time to change them every year.  I now have it
on my calendar to replace the detectors in 9 years :)
