Core Role Functions
This IT Linux Administrator position will support Cree’s 24x7 business
sustaining critical manufacturing services running on Oracle Linux,
and RedHat Linux systems. They will assist in technical research and
development to enable continuing innovation and efficiency within the
infrastructure. As well as ensure system hardware, operating systems,
applications, and related procedures achieve company values and
following ITIL framework best practices regarding Change Management,
Service Management, and ­­Capacity Management.

Operational Support
Participate in daily systems monitoring, verifying the integrity and
availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key
processes, reviewing system and application logs.

Repair and recover from hardware or software failures, and follow
procedures for coordination and communicating with impacted business
units.

Assist with maintaining internal customer service level agreements.

Maintenance
Participate with systems upgrades, configuration changes as required
by service needs, apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis,
and upgrade administrative tools and utilities, configure / add new
services as necessary, system tuning and resource optimization review
to achieve optimal return on hardware investment, maintain operational
status, configuration, and procedural documentation, perform periodic
performance reporting to support capacity planning.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Mid- to Senior-level RedHat 5.x/6.x or Oracle Enterprise Linux administration
Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering
or computer science.
5+ years of Unix Administration/System Engineering experience
Advanced in-depth RHEL troubleshooting skills on x86 hardware, and
VMWare 4.x/5.x virtual guests
Must be a self driven individual able to take instruction and work
independently and able to follow established procedures
Should possess a drive for continual process and procedure efficiency
improvements
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
RedHat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) preferred
Oracle Linux Certified Administrator preferred
Prior Solaris Administration preferred


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
No regular travel will be required.
No telecommuting
