I have a VW Golf TDI.  Great car with great fuel mileage (+40 MPG).  Not too expensive...

I have the 2013 CRV. Size-wise, the new CRV's are a little larger than they
used to be. But it meets most of your list. I've been extremely happy with
the base model (2WD); which still has the Eco-mode.
