and while we're discussing cars, let's not forget routine maintenance
costs. I have a 2010 Honda Civic DX (base model, no fancy whiz-bang
stuff). It seems like every time it goes to the dealer for the
maintenance minder service, the cost is between $200 and $500.

Add to that the fact that it's only ever been serviced by two Honda
dealers, one of them broke the right rear control arm cam bolt hole (they
didn't tighten down the bolt), and both dealers disclaimed
responsibility... well, the Civic has a reputation as a reliable car, but
I'm sick of Honda itself.

One of the best all-time cars (safety, not looks) was the Volvo 240 sedan.

My all time personal favorite was my Volvo 740 turbo wagon. Capable of
hauling a 36" tube tv, capable of rocketing off a line ahead of some
people's BMW's, got ~ $20 mpg, and had sight lines of a fish tank (you
could see everything easily, without obstructing posts and pillars).

And then there was my Chevky K-2500... V8, diesel, 4WD...even better sight
lines, but not nearly as glamorous.
