Well MSFT has unleashed their potential by making their Development Open and available for pretty much any major platform. Their incredible Visual Studio is also completely free.

I have expected them to move toward more open software and start concentrating on their real potential, which is their awsome client application tools, specifically .NET. For those looking to deny this strength, look no further than some of the best user software applications out there. My career experience shows .NET as the fastest, most developer friendly way to bring solutions to market that are top notch. Add this with Linux and WOW!!!
Impacts:
1. Many Open Source development solutions like Java and Qt loose major steam as cross platform choices. Other open source projects like Gambas just die.2. Apple, Does anyone in business world really develop for Apple? Well with .NET, they will now.3. Microsoft finally moves to subscription based software4. Microsoft pushes for cloud based services as major source of income5. Linux continues as the platform of true reliability and most likely accelerates6. Windows OS slowly ramps down and eventually disappears as you will not know the difference of what is running in the background.(Hint: Background will be linux)7. Apple goes back to niche, expensive but definitely kool segment of market. (Did they ever leave that place? Well they are trying with IBM deal)
Curious to others thoughts on this incredible developlment that will move computing into hyper-speed progress.
