You can get a whole keyboard for a Vostro 1500 for $10 (used) to $14 (new),
on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40%7CR40&_sacat=0&_nkw=Vostro+1500+keyboard&_sop=15

However, before you buy, study the picture in the listing very carefully,
paying special attention to the shape and placement of the Enter key,
backslash key, and left-shift key, but also the shifted number keys, the
tilde key, the brackets, the vertical bar, the quote and apostrophe, and
the function keys. Many of the laptop keyboards for sale on eBay have
awful, weird key positions. They'll work in your computer, but they will
drive you stark raving mad if you actually try to use them.

A new battery is about the same price as a keyboard:
6 cell:

9 cell:

That machine is not a speedster by today's standards, but not too bad. I
think this is the CPU:

Unfortunately, it takes DDR2 memory, so it's max'd out at 4 GB.
