[TriLUG] Quick Subversion Question

All,
In attempting to backup a repository in Subversion on Ubuntu, I run the
command "svnadmin dump /path/repo > xyz.svn_dump and get the following
error:

E000002: Can't open file '/path/repo/format'

Any ideas on how to get around this or what is causing this?
