Southeastern Camera [0] keeps some telescopes in stock and sells a range of
related stuff. As far as I know, they are the only ones in the area.

You should go to some observing events with the Raleigh Astronomy Club
and/or the Chapel Hill Astronomical Observation Society (CHAOS). It's a
very friendly community that will be eager to share views through their
scopes, tell you about them, and help you decide what kind of scope you
want. This being a new moon weekend, there will probably be people from
both groups going out tonight and/or tomorrow night. Just hop on their
email lists and introduce yourself.

The best thing you could do is attend a big start party. You'll find
potentially over 100 attendees will every kind of amateur telescope, and
vendors. The best one in the area is October 12-18, although they haven't
updated the website with those dates: http://www.chaosastro.com/starparty/

A lot has changed in telescope and eyepiece design since you last were in
the hobby, and there are a lot of options, so definitely don't rush to make
a purchase.
