It's hard to convince Thunderbird that you know what you're doing.
I assume you're getting stuck at that "probe for new account" step,
where it holds up a hand and says "don't tell me, let me guess".

If that's the case, then create the new account using a known-good
email account, and then come back later to change it to the new
server and new login/password method and new credentials.
