[TriLUG] Remote Desktop

So this may be a dumb question, but... I think I saw you say it was a
web application, because you had to launch Firefox on the remote system
to do the thing.

So...

Why can't you just do it from Firefox on your local machine? If this is
part of your regular responsibilities, it seems like your IT folks
should be willing to expose whatever it is to your workstation, whether
that means opening the right firewall port on the server to your IP or
whatever.

Cheers,
-Brian

I do not need to access it from outside the building. (I just don't feel like walking down 4 flights of stairs whenever I need to create the file.) I've looked at RealVNC and while it certainly would do what I need, it just seems like overkill. If I have the other unit set up as the "server" with me as the "client" the "server" must be always running. On the occasions I need to access the unit there is no one at it to start some process for me. Everything must take place without human intervention.
