[TriLUG] Gigabit-and-open-source-ready firewalls & routers?

Hey there, fellow geeks!

I recently got gigabit fiber at my home and to my dismay it appears my
TP-Link Archer C7 OpenWRT-loaded firewall/router apparently can't keep
up with gigabit speeds. I'm not ok with giving my provider's router full
access to my internal network so I'm looking for other gear that *I* can
control which might handle a gigabit link.

What gear are you other gigabit users using? How well does it keep up?
Finally (and most importantly), can it run open source firewall software
like OpenWRT, DD-WRT and/or pfSense? Let's compare notes!
